Well designed and professionally installed track lighting can make interior spaces more interesting and attractive.
Track lighting falls into two basic categories, and both types of systems involve a ceiling mounted track, and moveable light fixtures which can be positioned at various intervals along the track. Besides being moveable laterally, most of these fixtures are designed to be swiveled around for very specific lighting, and are often used to light art and other points of interest in homes, offices, and public spaces of various kinds.
The first category of track lighting involves a track supplying high voltage line current, usually 120 volt AC. The second type of track provides low voltage DC current from a remote power supply. Both types of track can power efficient, low voltage lamps. Low voltage lamps mounted on high voltage tracks will each employ a small built-in power supply, while high voltage lamps require no power supplies, low voltage lamps are more efficient and are available in a wider range of beam angles and wattage specifications. LED lamps for both high voltage and low voltage tracks are now becoming available. Although more expensive than other lamps, visible spectrum LEDs produce no UV which can cause harmful fading to art and interior fabrics.
Well designed and professionally installed track lighting can make interior spaces more interesting and attractive, by highlighting specific areas and objects with their own zones of illumination. Because track lighting can be much more efficient than large area illumination, it can also makes good sense in terms of conserving electrical energy.
